Natchez MS/Vidalia LA

 31 Dec 2023 Natchez, MS/Vidalia, LA.

5 hours and 291 miles of great back roads Route to River View RV Park. It is in Vidalia, Louisiana on the Mississippi River. Natchez Mississippi is on the other side of the river.  It is a very nice park for only $35/night. Amazing. We can watch the boats go by from the RV. We'll be here for 3 nights.

The Mighty Mississippi! Normally you can see the boats go by but the water level is so low that big boats can't travel and the smaller ones are masked by the levee.

We're the last rig on the right.

When we arrived we the park was totally full and so many people were sitting outside looking at the river. Turns out that Natchez puts on a great fireworks show at 6:30 from a barge anchored in the river near the big bridges. It was quite a show and we had front row seats and were done by 7!

This is the office, community room, 1st class laundry, and pool. Never seen one so nice. The very nice site with full hookups and concrete pad was $40/night! Amazing!

We asked them for restaurant recommendations and they were unanimous to take a 30 minute drive to the Old Country Store.

What a great experience! And, why yes, it is Soul Food! This LINK gives a great rundown on the store and owner Mr Anthony Davis (AKA Mr. D). He retired from Fla Power and Light years ago and told us he got bored, bought this building and started the restaurant. Awhile later he says, his life changed when Food Network's Alton Brown and film crew stopped in from a shoot for a soda thinking it was a general store. Alton saw the chicken, tried it and the rest is history. He's been called to New York for other programs and the videos still pop up. He's such a nice and friendly soul. He cooks and waits tables (in a nice tie) and only has 1 helper. The restaurant is usually full every lunch, mostly locals (and its not very near to any town!). Great food and experience. Oh yes, Mr. D sings sweet songs to all the women that come in, including Robin.

We'll be back to this campground and Natchez. We didn't get many photos because of traffic but it was another town with lots of historic character.

(N.B.) check back later when I get pictures from Robin's camera,
